Driven by a belief in nature’s efficiency, they looked beyond synthetic chemistry and instead turned to microorganisms, living organisms that cannot be seen with the naked eye. In these living systems, they discovered processes that could convert underutilised renewable resources into valuable materials. It was a discovery that merged environmental responsibility with economic opportunity, proving that sustainability could be scalable. From those early experiments, Bioextrax emerged as a biosolutions company built on the principle that innovation should serve both people and the planet. Our first technology marked a breakthrough in sustainable production. By using bacteria to produce and extract biodegradable plastic replacements, we found a way to reduce waste while creating circular solutions for global industries. Today, we continue to build on that founding vision. We collaborate with partners who share our belief that progress and preservation must move forward together. We support the full journey from the first litre to 1,000 litres in stainless steel, covering pretreatment, separation, filtration, and drying. This allows us to test and validate processes at a realistic scale – without further investment in equipment. We operate a range of stainless steel bioreactors and fermenters across this full volume range. This enables stepwise scale-up from development runs to demo level, parallel campaigns with different strains or process parameters, and the ability to mimic industrial conditions ahead of full-scale investment. The term "Made by Microbes" defines our entire production philosophy. Rather than relying on synthetic chemistry, we harness the natural capabilities of microorganisms to produce and recover high-performance materials. Our symbol, formed from the letters "b" and "x", creates a shape that references molecular connections, a visual reminder that everything we make is made by microbes.
