## Why are we doing this?

By using microorganisms to replace chemical processes, we create smarter and more sustainable ways to produce materials. Our technologies enable the development of biobased and biodegradable plastics, proteins and natural fibres that support a circular and biobased economy.

Global plastic production is currently responsible for around 12% of total demand for oil and 8.5% of total natural gas demand.

Every year 9-14 million metric tons of plastic enters the ocean.

## 5m

The global poultry industry generates approximately five million tonnes of feathers each year. Only a fifth of this byproduct is collected separately for use in animal feed and fertilisers.

### Feather Waste

More than 5 million tons of poultry feathers are discarded globally each year, typically ending up in landfills or burned as waste. Bioextrax unlocks this potential through a controlled, biobased hydrolysis technology that converts feather waste into either high-value keratin microfibers or hydrolysed proteins.
